Reflection’s K12 Online 2007

Where to start?  Educate the admin., teachers, kids, and ourselves?   The big question is where to start when it comes to education.  I believe we need to start with the administration and teachers.  Because how can we educate our students if the staff is not educated or up to date with the educational world.  There is a vase variety of information out there on the Internet, for teachers today.  But what are we doing with this information.  This is where the world of blogging comes into part.  The professional world of blogging for teachers.  I did not know that there was so much information on the Internet and the world of blogging.  I realize I need to take time to explore the wonderful teaching world of blogging.  The few blogs I have looked at has given my a lot of new information about teaching and education.  This semester was the first time I use blogging in a classroom setting as a form of communication.  It was different and interesting to post your thoughts and feelings on a website for the whole world to view and make comments.  But it is also a good way to share new information, by writing a blog.  I personally still need to learn more about the world of blogging.  For as educating our kids about blogging, I think school should have a blog website for student to post the thought about different subject matters.  Students should really start to blog in third grade.  This teaches them about computers, a form of communication and how to share information over the Internet with fellow students.

All the information provided form this on eliminate talk was an real eye opener for me.  Because I am not a teacher and just to hear about the wonderful world of teaching.  Why I call it a wonderful world of teaching because there is so much information available via Internet that one can become overwhelmed with to much information.  It is hard to decide what information is useful and or not.  I know I have a lot of work cut out for me if I want to become a teacher.  My desire was to teach college level courses at night.  But know that I have taken this class I believe I need to taught some more about becoming a good teacher.  Because I believe one must be taught first in order to teach others.

What is Second Life?

What is Second Life?

Second Life is an Internet-based virtual world video game launched on June 23, 2003, developed by Linden Research, Inc (commonly referred to as Linden Lab), which came to international attention via mainstream news media in late 2006 and early 2007.  A free down loadable client program called the Second Life Viewer enables its users, called “Residents“, to interact with each other through motional avatars, providing an advanced level of a social network service combined with general aspects of a metaverse. Residents can explore, meet other Residents, socialize, participate in individual and group activities, and create and trade items (virtual property) and services with one another.

  • From the moment you enter the World you’ll discover a vast digital continent, teeming with people, entertainment, experiences and opportunity. Once you’ve explored a bit, perhaps you’ll find a perfect parcel of land to build your house or business.
  • You’ll also be surrounded by the Creations of your fellow Residents. Because Residents retain intellectual property rights in their digital creations, they can buy, sell and trade with other Residents.
  • The Marketplacecurrently supports millions of US dollars in monthly transactions. This commerce is handled with the in world unit of trade, the Linden™ dollar, which can be converted to US dollars at several thriving online Linden dollar exchanges.

Technology in Education

June 20, 2008

When I think of technology it is the wave of the future.  The technology has increased over the pass couple of years.  How would have thought you can get a degree online , without having to attend campus!  Since technology has grown you do not enough have to go to a library to do research, when you have all the available resource just at the click of a finger?  Teens said they relied mostly on Internet sources for the last big projects to gather information from the internet . Because of technology you are able to communicate with fellow students through email, online chat rooms, message boards, blogs, etc.    Most students rely heavily on the internet for their main source of communication.  Recent studies have shown that students believe th at the Internet helps them do better in school (86 percent of teens , 88 percent of online teens ).  The internet as a whole provides should a wide range of information technology and this is just the beginning of a new era.
